Advanced Technologies

Advanced dental technology can allow for precise and comfortable dentistry that’s conservative and minimally invasive. New tools and tech have provided diagnostic applications that dramatically enhance a dentist’s ability to diagnose potential dental problems early. Our dental practice continually invests in both education and dental equipment that make your trip to the dentist as comfortable and highly effective as possible. Here are some of the dental technology tools used at Cecil Riter DDS to make your visit to the dentist more precise, productive, and less invasive than ever.

Itero Digital IntraOral Scanner

Dr. Riter or one of our highly trained registered dental assistants use the iTero Scanner wand to capture tooth surfaces and gum tissue images. This process utilizes only visible light and does not use radiation (x-rays).

You can follow the scanning progress on the screen, since your orthodontic model is digitally built in real-time.

The completed scan is available as a 3D model that Dr. Riter can use to begin planning your treatment and to create supplemental orthodontic appliances or Invisalign aligners.

Our office can take periodic scans so that iTero’s advanced computer software can analyze and detect changes in your dental health over time.   The Itero software provides our office a powerful tool for preventative dental care.

Invisalign®

Invisalign® is a teeth-straightening alternative to braces that uses customized, removable aligners made of clear thermoplastic material. The aligners gently adjust your teeth over time without the need for traditional metal brackets or wires.

Invisalign trays fit precisely over your teeth and move your teeth gradually to an ideal arch-form, bite alignment, and beautiful smile.

Invisalign typically moves your teeth more quickly than traditional braces.   Other people will not know you are wearing braces because Invisalign trays are almost invisible.

Cerec Scanner and Robotic Milling Machine

CEREC stands for Ceramic Reconstruction and is a sophisticated system of designing and making high-quality dental restorations in one patient visit. CEREC utilizes 3D photography and CAD/CAM technology to assist a dentist in designing a virtual restoration (onlay, inlay, crown, or bridge) without taking impressions and, when combined with a milling unit, is able to build the actual restoration while you are still in the chair or shopping at Ala Moana Shopping Center ….. Stroll into Cecil Riter DDS….

In addition to cutting down on the number of visits and the time interval of waiting to get back from an outside lab, there’s no need for messy impressions, and there’s no need to wear a temporary crown for two weeks (that could possibly crack or break and result in even more office visits!). This all translates to savings of money and time for you.

Digital Panoramic radiography(Panorex)  and  XDR Digital Radiography

Radiographs enable us to detect cavities in between your teeth, determine bone level, and analyze the health of your bone. We can also examine the roots and nerves of teeth, diagnose lesions such as cysts or tumors, as well as assess damage when trauma occurs. Dental radiographs are invaluable aids in diagnosing, treating, and maintaining dental health.

Exposure time for dental radiographs is extremely minimal.. With digital imaging, exposure time is about 50 percent less when compared to traditional radiographs. Digital imaging can also help us retrieve valuable diagnostic information. We may be able to see cavities better. Digital imaging allows us to store patient images, and enables us to quickly and easily transfer them to specialists or insurance companies.

Digital X-rays offer more precision since we view the image on a computer monitor, instead of holding up a 35mm film up to the light.

Ultrasonic Tooth Cleaner (Scaler)

Our dental hygienists utilize ultrasonic scalers during preventive cleanings and periodontal (gum) treatments. An ultrasonic scaler is a special tooth cleaner that uses gentle ultrasonic vibrations and sound waves to help break up and remove soft plaque film and hard calculus (tartar) deposits above and below the gum line. A fine mist of water flows from the tip to help flush away loose bacteria and debris from around your teeth and gums. Ultrasonic scalers are very effective for stain removal, have adjustable power and water settings to maximize your comfort, and are especially useful in difficult to clean areas such as deep gum pockets, areas of bone loss between tooth roots, and around braces. Many patients comment that they like the ultrasonic scaler so much that they want it used on them at each cleaning visit.

UV  Sterilizer

As an extra measure of sterilization we utilize an array of powerful Ultraviolet lights to provide an extra measure of disinfection for our PPE Personal Protective Equipment.

Air Purification  Evacuator/Room Air Purification

Our practice uses state of the art Winix Hepa 4-stage room air purifiers and chair-side Beyes aerosol evacuators to remove contaminants from the air such as viruses, dust and airborne particles created by dental procedures.

Intraoral Camera

An intraoral camera allows our practice to view clear, precise images of your mouth, teeth and gums, in order for us to accurately make a diagnosis. By viewing clear, defined, enlarged images, you see details that might be missed with standard mirror examinations. Intraoral cameras also enable our practice to save your images in our office computer to provide a permanent record of treatments. These treatments can be printed and / or emailed for you, other specialists, and your lab or insurance companies.
